Background of the Study
Government transparency is a critical aspect of local governance, ensuring that decision-making processes are open, accountable, and accessible to the public. In Nigeria, the introduction of transparency policies at the local government level has been seen as a means of enhancing public trust and reducing corruption. In Dala Local Government, Kano State, the local administration has implemented several transparency initiatives, including the publication of budgetary allocations, financial reports, and public procurement processes, with the aim of promoting accountability and fostering citizen engagement (Aliyu & Abdullahi, 2023). Despite these efforts, challenges remain in fully implementing transparency policies, with issues such as political interference, limited public awareness, and inadequate institutional capacity hindering their effectiveness (Salihu & Musa, 2024). This study explores the implementation and effectiveness of government transparency policies in Dala Local Government, assessing how these policies have impacted local governance and citizen trust.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While transparency policies have been put in place in Dala Local Government, the degree of their effectiveness in fostering good governance and increasing public trust remains questionable. Many citizens still express concerns about corruption, lack of access to information, and limited participation in governance processes, which undermine the potential of transparency policies (Jibrin & Yakubu, 2023). This study seeks to examine how government transparency policies are implemented in Dala Local Government, identifying the barriers to full implementation and the extent to which these policies have improved governance and citizen engagement.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
To assess the effectiveness of government transparency policies in Dala Local Government, Kano State.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on government transparency policies within Dala Local Government, Kano State. Data will be gathered from local government officials, citizens, and civil society organizations involved in governance and transparency advocacy. The study is limited to this specific locality and may not be generalizable to other regions with different governance structures or levels of transparency.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
Government Transparency Policies: Policies that ensure openness in the decision-making processes of government, with a focus on public access to information and accountability in governance.
Local Governance: The system by which local government authorities manage and deliver services to their communities, including public administration, budgeting, and policy implementation.
Public Trust: The confidence that citizens have in the integrity, fairness, and effectiveness of their government’s actions and decisions.
